Do Man United play the long ball?
Interesting to note that when Rooney played a pass from his own half into the path of Van Persie for the "goal of the century" last night it was described as a "probing chip" in the Guardian and a "deep pass" on Sky. Had James Collins played a similar ball for Andy Carroll it would definitely have been a "long ball". Rooney also played a great long ball out wide for United's first. Route one, that Man United, if you ask me.

Have you had a go at the Olympic Stadium Survey on the website yet? The thing that amused me was the lengths The Brady Bunch have gone to on the sales pitch. The opening video didn't exactly give the pros and cons. Even Bobby Moore wants the move apparently. Talk about lead the witness. Anyway, I have always been an advocate of the move....or have I been indoctrinated too?
Just looking at it now. I shall advocate moving Ken's Cafe and The Newham Bookshop to Stratford as well...
I watched the Karen Brady Video about the new stadium yesterday. Looks great. But I’m not sure… I was born in 1958 so I’m old enough to have seen Moore, Peters, Hurst, Redknapp, Bonds, Lampard at the Boleyn, This was back in the early 70s when I got 50p pocket money per week and could still afford to go to a premiership (First Div) game buy a programme and a hot dog and still have change left for the rest of the week. Any way I digress. The new stadium looks great. Better than the Emirates apparently.
But.
When you’ve followed a team like West Ham for such a long time you realise that part of the deal is that you are not supporting a Man Utd or an Arsenal and I couldn’t help thinking that’s what they want to turn West Ham into. If I was chasing trophies and wanted non-stop winning all the time I wouldn’t support West Ham would I? The best thing about winning something only every blue moon is that it’s such a pleasure when it happens. I can’t imagine expecting to win things. It’s a bit scary innit? D’you know what I mean?
Yes I do Glenn. We remember the bad times as much as the good...Though I'm sure West Ham being West Ham we could easily mess up our bid to be Man United or Arsenal… I remember Gudmundsson was going to get us into the Champions League!
With "twice as many retail outlets" I am sure Ken's Cafe and The Newham Bookshop could be accommodated. I would also like the Don't Kill Your Wife Let Us Do It Clock relocated at the new stadium.
As for being too successful, I saw the cup finals in 1975, 1980 and that one where Stevie G ruined our party. I wouldn't mind a few more moments. Maybe not 20 league titles though. As you say, that's not what we do.
Yes Richard, I think the "Don't kill your wife" sign will have to come too... in fact it it should be listed by English Heritage as a classic piece of seventies sexism...
