Friend or Defoe?

Are we being softened up for the return of Jermain Defoe? He still loves West Ham according to this interview in the Daily Mirror. Defoe says of that infamous transfer request:
“It was a massive mistake. I didn’t really want to do it. We’re talking about leaving the club I was in love with at the time because I came through the youth system with my friends, the fans loved me there. They were brilliant - every game they sang my name.

"The person who represented me at the time said, ‘You need to hand in a transfer request and get in early because all the lads are going to leave.I remember going in and I was so nervous. It was (then Hammers chief executive) Paul Aldridge and I gave him the letter and he said, ‘What’s this?’ And I said, ‘It’s a transfer request’. And he looked at me as if to say, ‘Are you kidding?’

"The backlash was crazy. I felt like I was on my own and people were absolutely abusing me. To this day I can imagine West Ham fans look at me and think, ‘Who does he think he is? How can you do that? You’re a Judas’. And it’s quite sad really because I can honestly say I still love that club.”
Though it doesn't explain why if he loved the club so much he couldn't devote a season to trying to get West ham promoted… Still, with our critical strike situation a proven goalscorer is essential. Should we have Jermain back?

U lot are a joke. Just shows how dogshit u really are. U been c****ing him off for ten years and when he says he was mis-represented and still loves u,u would take him back with open arms. By the way he would still be ur best player. Big improvement boys in 10 years well done. Ur fluke at the lane celebrations will be very short lived. It won't be this season he goes so that's u relegated so u will be lucky if u get bentner. Racist clowns! Coys!

Well he is still a good striker. He seems an identikit to Soldado so we don't need both. Hammers need a striker and given game time I think he could be very good for them. What's in the past is in the past. No matter who he went to, you can't really blame a player for wanting to lay in the Premier League. Don't know whether he is going or not but he has stated his public admiration for West Ham so it maybe a good deal for Spurs, Hammers and Defoe. I say, give it a chance.

Defoe is not good enough for our first team but he would be a star for West Ham - but would he want to join a relegation threatened team?

Anonymous theres a certain Irony to that you may as well call yourself coward. Also while we are about it your grammer is shocking and further more you bunch of inbred North London mockneys I seem to remember you were going to do the same to us in October . All went a bit wrong didnt it? Still it must be hard always playing second fiddle to the Arsenal. That must really hurt .By the way what is that like. Play up you chirpy cockney Hammers !!

When Spuds came in for Defoe the WHU board did not try to keep him. Why because they had only him and Carrick left to sell, who also went to the Spuds. The WHU owners lied to the fans once again. Anyone else remember Trevor Brooking saying he had been told we were ok financially and would not need to sell our players? COME BACK DEFOE, IT WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE A PROPER GOALSCORER AGAIN

I have always loved Defoe and never had a bad word to say against him. If Spurs played him more they may actually score some of the chances they create. Anyway come back Defoe, you will always be loved in the East End.
