Winston's bulldog spirit
Is Winston Reid the most battered player in the Championship? In the last two games he's won two penalties and seen Norris of Portsmouth sent off for fouling him. The Kiwi centre back has made an impressive return to the side after two months out and looks a different player this season. One impressive thing about Allardyce is how he's got the defence playing as a unit and reinvigorated Rob Green. He's certainly restored the confidence of Reid and with Tomkins, Faye and John vying for two spots we actually have competition at the back.

Looks the same player to me, does his job but can't pass a ball 6 yards. Did you see how bad he was at Southampton away?
He might have had a bad game at Saints, but I saw him at Brighton and he made a lot of good last ditch challenges. He could pass it better, but looks effective in the Championship compared to say last season at WBA, when he looked completely lost in the 3-3 draw. And he certainly seems to be wining some penalties and making a few goals at the other end this term.
I agree Reid is much improved, and he played well at Fratton Park, but I think Tomkins and Faye are our best partnership at the moment. I am not sure John will get on the pitch before his loan is up - unless they are planning to sell Tomkins.
Don't mention the selling word! Would have to an Andy Carroll type offer to get shot of our best defender... Hopefully the PL clubs will go for Samba, who wants to leave.
