Hurry up Avvy!

And still the mystifying wait for Avram continues, even though we've bid £5 million for Yakubu according to today's Daily Mail.
Perhaps we're waiting for references to prove that Grant really did work at Chelsea and has five O levels and a CSE grade one in woodwork. Or a landlord is refusing to verify where he was living five years ago?

There are rumours Grant is on holiday, and a press conference is scheduled for next Tuesday or Wednesday.

In other news, Specs has become only our 16th World Cup player, which seems remarkably low. There are also 10 Englishmen, and 1 from Belgium, Scotland, Czechoslovakia (sic) Trinidad & Tobago and France.

I can think of Moore, Hurst, Peters, Brooking, Martin and Sinclair; + presumably Van Der Elst, definitely Shaka Hislop, and I think Frank McAvennie.

Other than that? Budgie Byrne, Ludo, Bernard Lama perhaps, but who are the others? David James? Joey Cole?

Specs is the next Bobby Moore...
McAvennie did play for Scotland when Fergie was managing them. Possibly Ludo? Marc Keller?

OK, England: Moore, Hurst, Peters, Martin, Brooking, Sinclair, Joey Cole, James and one other (maybe Harry Hooper, who was in the 22 in 1954, but was one of 5 who stayed home on the reserve list and never travelled).

+ Van Der Elst, Hislop, McAvennie, Miklosko, Lama and now Spector.

Not many is it? Although Green, Upson, possibly Parker, Franco, possibly McCarthy and Behrami go this time.

But think how many ex-Hammers have gone...

Sorry, forgot Rio Ferdinand (1998)

Harry Hooper was the Steve Potts of his era… What about The Chop?
