Only last Saturday Mystic May was saying that we still lacked a Benayoun-style of creative midfielder. And now we've re-signed the 32-year-old midfielder on a season-long loan from Chelsea. Watched the 2006 FA Cup Final against Liverpool as research for a chapter in Flying So High: West Ham's Cup Finals and Benayoun had a fantastic game and dictated the pace of the match. Liverpool were so impressed they signed him. Yes, he's six years older now, but will still offer some dribbling ability and something unexpected around the opposition box. While Nicky Maynard has departed to Cardiff for a fee that one paper claimed was around the £2 million mark. With Carroll and Benayoun to call on we've had an exciting transfer window and I'm feeling more optimistic — which probably means we'll get thrashed today. Meanwhile anyone attending today's game please note that the Newham Bookshop in Barking Road has signed copies of There's Only One Stevie Bacon. Irons!
