The Ex-Files

While the Irons failed to score at Norwich, my inner anorak notes that no fewer than seven former West Ham players scored in the Championship over the weekend. Sam Baldock scored Bristol City's third against Blackburn, Junior Stanislas got Burnley's fifth against Peterborough, Craig Bellamy netted for Cardiff against Leeds, Abdy Faye scored for Hull against Millwall, Hayden "he never lets you down" Mullins put Birmingham ahead at Forest (isn't it time for Pards to make a bid?), Leicester's Paul Konchesky scored a rocket away to Wolves yesterday and on Friday Wayne Bridge scored for Brighton with a free kick against Sheffield Wednesday. Not sure what this proves, but it must be some kind of record...

And yet as far as I can see no one who has played for the Hammers first team scored in League 1, 2 or Blue Square Premier or North and South, not in the four Scottish divisions. Two players who were on the books did score - in League 1 and Blue Square South - and being the new Statto you will be able to name them I am sure?

It proves that we have been prolific at signing qute a few high level Championship players. Trouble is we were usually in the EPL when we signed them.

I guess timing IS everything.

Good point USA Dave! As for the two players Matt, I see Gary Alexander scored twice for Crawley in League One though even I'm not prepared to trawl through the Blue Square South results...

Alexander was a half-decent spot, but I am amazed you did not notice that Omer Riza scored a 26th minute penalty for Boreham Wood, in their 4-2 defeat at Tonbridge Angels. Omer, of course, spent three years at West Ham from 1999 after signing from Arsenal, although he never made the first team. He later had a decent career in Turkey, and has also played for Shrewsbury, Aldershot and Histon. I thought everyone knew that?!

I don't know how i could have missed that one Matt! There's only one Omer Riza... Maybe next week will be an Omer win for Boreham Wood.
