Oh Carroll! Getting our injury crisis in early…

Andy Carroll is set to miss the first three game of the season while he recovers from a thigh injury. I'm not even sure what part of his body is injured anymore. Last season Slaven said AC was "feeling his groin" after the game at Sunderland in April and then we never saw him again. That was three and a half months ago. He's still a great player if he can make the pitch, but Andy's body just doesn't seem up to the rigours of the PL anymore. Meanwhile Antonio is on course with his recovery but will miss the first game of the season at Old Trafford and Kouyate has picked up an injury too. Oh well, at least we've got our injury crisis in early.

On a more positive note, it was good to see Toni Martinez get a game and score with a well-taken header against Werder Bremen. With Andy forever crocked, he may well get a few more run-outs this season.

GET HIM OUT!......NEVER FIT..... TERMINATE HIS CONTRACT, HE'S NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE!

He's got a year left on his contract and can't see he'll move for less money. Just have to hope he might be fit to at least be an impact sub

As well as Carroll and Antonio definitely missing the start of the season, and Sakho only just back in training, there's an ominous silence about how badly Cheikhou is hurt; The Feg has had to fly home for treatment, and Lanzini, Noble and Collins are all injured. Early days for Gary Lewin, but it's already looking worrying. I reckon we've 22 senior players, which is plenty for normal clubs, but nowhere near for one which averages around 10 players missing per match.

Cheikhou is out long term, yet another injury in training. And yet they're claiming it is a "freak" injury. Funny how clubs like Chelsea never get these freak injuries. You'd almost think it was because they are run in a professional manner.

You know it's genuinely going to be weird at the end of this season when we let Carroll go, he's never been fit for any period of time to make a difference yet on some level he is the personification of West Ham.

We all believe in him, when he's fit he's brilliant, but you can't rely on him. That's been my 15 years of West Ham in a nut shell.

Once he's gone I'll genuinely miss him, but as a club it will be interesting to see how we deal with not having the excuse 'he'll be brilliant when fit' and have to confront the fact we need another top class striker.

As someone once said about climate change, it's an inconvenient truth, Andy Carroll contract ending will be rather inconvenient to our owners as he will finally need replacing and I'm not sure they have the appetite to replace such a high profile English international.
