Farewell Tomka

Hope West Ham haven't made a mistake selling James Tomkins to Crystal Palace. Past seasons suggest we need four quality centre backs so presumably Reece Oxford or Reece Burke (who did well at Bradford) will become our fourth centre back alongside Ogbonna, Reid and Collins. But potential is one thing, Tomkins was a proven PL centre back who could play at right-back as well. Last season James played against Aston Villa after having 13 stitches in a head wound sustained at Anfield, which shows his commitment to the Hammers. He made 243 appearances for the Irons scoring 11 goals and also gave us a good chant after a big night out at Sugar Hut. He'll be missed. Mark Noble summed it up with his tweet: "Looked after @TomkinsOfficial for 16 years, been through everything together, sad day for me but that's football for ya, good luck geezer."

Absoluty gutted to hear we have sold tompkins he is a westham veteran he has made mistakes like anybody else but you learn from then he is a good old fashioned defender who puts his body on the line unlike some tarts these days that man has has put blood and sweat for the greater cause of the team i wish him all the best but sad to see him go specially with so many games on the table next season

And where's the right-back to replace him? And where's my new season ticket as well?

Assume Byram will be first choice right back now MJ, but if he gets injured we're down to Joey O'Brien. Tomkins' versatility will be a big loss. And no sign of my ticket either!

Absolutely agree. Bilic hasn't made a foot wrong yet but not sure on this one. Tomkins was quality and should have been playing when Antonio was stuck out of position. Not a happy Hammer today
