Notes from Underground

The Chilean miners are slowly emerging from the underground tomb where they've been trapped for two months.

The first man up, possibly a close relative of Javier Margas, was rumoured to have asked "Have West Ham got a point yet?"

When he was told they had five he broke down and hugged his family as the crowd began to cheer wildly... although then someone had to break the news that we're still bottom.

I seem to recall Margas disappearing for an entire season shortly after his arrival, before eventually returning with claret and blue hair. At the time we thought he was injured, homesick or both, but maybe he was actually trapped down a mine? (I will leave it to Nigel to say his defending was the pits....)

Talking of going missing, looks like Thomas Hitzlsperger is out for the season, without ever kicking a ball for us in a proper game. Not sure if this is another Dean Ashton-style fiasco by our medical staff (after being 2 weeks away for the last 2 months there has been some sort of "setback" supposedly)but am I the only one thinking about Simon Webster and Richard Hall?

His thigh muscle has become detatched from the bone according to the Sun, which doesn't sound good, and he's out until February at least. So he might as well be stuck down a mine.

Interesting the shift leader of the miners was an ex-football coach. Presumably he kept the lads well drilled and was a relative of Neil Ore...
