Brought to book in Newham

It's not too late to do your Christmas shopping in the Newham Bookshop, London's best independent bookshop in Barking Road. And nice to see my Guardian piece on West Ham leaving the Boleyn Ground is now on display in their front window, next to Harper Lee and Mary Beard. Now that's literary credibility…

Apparently, Harper Lee's next book after To Kill A Mockingbird was due to be about her brother Rob, whose career peaked when he played 16 games for West Ham, although I have heard he also turned out for lesser teams, such as Newcastle, and England. However, the reclusive author failed to finish it in over 60 years. At least Mary Beard did publish It's A Don's Life, the biography of the Hot Scot, Don Hutchinson, but critics felt that it lacked a convincing account of Budweisergate.
